Protecting curly hair in summer: how, with what and why?

Sunny summers are a challenge for hair. Especially for curly hair. And for them to survive the hot air, sea water and chlorine from the pool, they need extra care. Let's find out how to protect your hair and scalp during your vacation and why you should do it at all.

Why protect your hair from the sun?

Even a couple of days at the beach without protection can make hair dry, brittle, lifeless and dull. And curly hair will also become frizzy and lose its curl shape. This is due to the effects of ultraviolet light - UV rays of types A and B.

The sun is harmful not only to the hair, but also to the scalp. At a minimum, it can burn - as on any part of the body that is not closed to the molten stream of light. That means expect itching, flaking, and sometimes hair loss.

The loss begins three months after the stressor. Therefore, the consequences of the vacation will manifest themselves closer to winter. Do not underestimate the risks of sunburn!

Oily skin can dry out, causing even more sebum (sebum) to be secreted and hair to become even more dirty. Dry skin will become more irritated.

Therefore, it is worth following a number of certain rules in summer to keep your hair beautiful all year round.

Let's give the sun a decent fight!

1. Try to wear a hat, such as a hat, panama, cap or bandana. It is important that the scalp does not burn in the sun. By the way, for curly people there are special caps with a deep neckline, which cover the head, but still allow you to do hairstyles.

2. After swimming in the sea or pool, rinse immediately under running water. It will wash away salt residue, the crystals of which attract even more sunlight and dry out your skin and your hair. Chlorine is also harmful, especially if it dries on your hair. Do not use products containing aggressive alcohols and silicones. The composition can be checked with a special service.

3. Be aware of leave-in products. In curl friendly non-soap products often contain gentle film-forming components. Of course, they can not fully create a barrier to UV rays. Nevertheless, such components form a protective layer, which is able to mitigate the effects of sun exposure. In addition, film-forming components give hair additional protection when it comes into contact with salt and chlorinated water.

4. If your scalp does get sunburned, dry and irritated, you need to take extra care of it. It is necessary to moisturize it as soon as possible.

Be careful with SPF sprays for hair! At cosmetic manufacturers, you can often meet such a product. And here it is important to understand that the principle of their work is based on a combination of chemical UV filters with a large concentration of dense films, most often silicones. Therefore, on the first places in the composition you can often notice dimethicone or amodimethicone. And if you adhere to the rules of the curl method, it is better to avoid such means.

Are there natural or organic sprays that can protect the hair from UV radiation?

The only natural and quite effective filters are the minerals titanium dioxide and zinc oxide. But these components have a powdery texture, so they are only added to lotions and creams - not sprays.

Karanji oil is a plant-based spf filter

Natural oils with proven effectiveness in creating a barrier against the sun (such as Karanji oil) have a rather low SPF protection - only 7-8 points, against the necessary 30-50 points in summer. In addition, in order to get this effect, the density of application must be high. To put it mildly, not a beach option at all. However, there are still options to make a protective spray yourself and not bathe in oil stains!

In addition to the measures described above, add Curl Rock'n'Roll' s Moisturize & Nourish Conditioner Spray, which contains Papaya Seed Oil Cryptoxanthin and Vitamin E (Papaya Seed Oil; Tocopherols Blend). These ingredients have UV and chlorinated water protective properties.

To make a protective spray with your own hands:

1. Find a spray bottle, preferably more than 50 ml

2. Mix hair conditioner and water

3. Determine the proportions based on the volume of the bottle. 1:1 is suitable if the container is large. If the jar is small, then it is worth achieving a liquid consistency, so that it atomized, not shot out creamy mass. Ratios of 1:2 or 1:3 will work for this. Experiment!

Your goal is to get a liquid that will cover your hair with a thin film. Next, apply the spray to dry or wet hair. You can do this at home before going out in the sun, and at the beach after every swim.

And don't forget your daily maintenance. Vacation is no reason to pay less attention to your hair. You can and should wash it as often while traveling as you do at home. But you can choose a gentler cosmetic.
